Hobbies
(Part 3 of 6)
In the last couple of blog post I defined and painted a picture of what burnout looks like. Now I am going to focus on how to prevent and/or begin to heal from burnout. One of the steps to burnout prevention is to find or have a Hobby.
A hobby is defined as;
an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.
There are a couple of things I like about this definition. First, is that a hobby is active. In other words, there is movement to a hobby. The second, is that it invites us to create time for rest and delight. To put it another way a hobby;
is an activity that rebuilds a person (spiritually, emotionally, & physically) and gives them joy that is done on a consistent basis.
I know for me having more than one hobby is important. I like traveling (usually to the mountains or ocean). I also like to work in the yard and the garden. Do you have a hobby? What is it? Do you have more than one?
If you are having trouble thinking of a hobby here is a list of possible hobbies:
Music: Playing or Listening
Traveling:
Fishing or hunting
Socializing: Community work, Church Activities, Volunteer Work
Painting
Dancing
Reading
Writing
Computer
Gardening
Animal Care
If you don’t have a hobby, I want to invite you to think about activities that you do that brings you life and freedom. How often do you get to participate in those activities?
If you are feeling like you are on the edge of burnout or burned out I would love to talk with you. I can be contacted by email at mark@yourstoryandaflashlight.com
